The fifth day of our practice (24.05.2024)

On the 5th day of our internship, we went to the Bukhara Blacksmith Museum. Here we saw the processes of working with iron and making various products from it. and I told the information I knew to our internship leader and fellow students:"Blacksmith workshop" was established in the 16th century. During the Shaibani period, many merchants came to Bukhara and traded. Merchants rested in "Saroy Kulyuta" after trading. And his horses were enriched in the place where the "Blacksmith workshop" is now located. In 1913, in Central Asia, 72% of the handicraft industry was the production of metal products. Metal processing is divided into 19 different sectors. At the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, there were 150 blacksmith shops in the city of Bukhara, of which 30 were famous for hoe-making and 50 for sickle-making. Based on the decision of the Presidium of the Council of People's Deputies of Bukhara on January 18, 1991, "Museum-workshop of the history of blacksmithing" was established in "Zabuda" mosque in Bukhara. Iron is heated in a Damm (furnace) at a temperature of 1300-1400, and weapons and items necessary for everyday life are made from it. According to Muslim traditions, making an object from metal is connected with the image of David in the holy book of Muslims, the Qur'an. According to legends, iron turned into wax in David's hands. Firdausi's "Shahnoma" reflects an epic, yet pre-Muslim tradition. According to him, Khushang, the leader of the dynasty of Iranian rulers, was the first blacksmith. The museum has a room for exposition and production of handicraft products. In 1992, it was decided to open a museum dedicated to this craft in "Saroy Kulyuta", an architectural monument of the 18th century. This monument is located in the old part of the city of Bukhara during the early Middle Ages. At that time, not far from the monument, there was a city gate called "Bobi Okhanin" (Iron Gate), a workshop of blacksmiths and knifemakers. Mullazoda, a historian from Bukhara who lived in the 15th century, wrote about this in detail in his book. In the workshop on the right are jugs, wheels and hammers. On the left side, there are samovars, scissors and trays. In the central part of the workshop, there is a jug-shaped Damm (stove) and a sangdon. Until now, 5-6 generations of Temirchi Kamolov dynasty have been working in the "Blacksmith Workshop". In particular, masters have been participating in various "Blacksmithing" and "Craftsmanship" competitions and showing their skills. The outer courtyard of the museum was renovated in 1990 by the Bukhara city administration. The courtyard consists of a 9-meter porch and 3 columns made of wood.
